Against Smoking

Smoking should be prohibited. i am against smoking because it can kill you and even disfigure you. Smoking can cause cancer and if you already have any type of cancer, smoking can cause your cancer to spread to another part of your body. I found this out when my grandmothers neighbor had breast cancer and kept smoking which eventually caused her cancer to spread from her breast to her throat and lungs. When an individual smokes it not only put themsleves at risk, but it also put others at risk. If you do not smoke, but hang around somebody that does yo can get secong hand smoke. Smoking might relieve stress, but there are consequences to relieving stress by smoking. Even though smoking is banned in public places, the US government should ban smoking everywhere. They should also put an end to cigerette sells. People may not know oe even acknowledge it , but smoking cigerettes can lead to smoking other types of drugs such as marijuana. I learned about this while to Health at my former high school.

  2. I agree smoking is extremely bad for you and the people around you. My dad has smoked ever since I was a child and my mom always told him it was hurting not only him but us, too. However, I believe it would be extremely hard to ban smoking everywhere. Banning smoking in public places is a very good law because it protects other non-smokers. To ban smoking everywhere would take a very long time to do if it did happen. Coming from a non-smoker, this would be a great thing but I just don't believe it will happen any time soon.

  3. I agree that smoking should be prohibited. However it should not be prohibited to ALL public areas. Even though smoking does hurt the smoker and others around the smoker they still have the right to smoke. There should be designated areas for smokers to do what they have to do far enough away from non-smoking areas therefore not affecting the non-smokers.
Second, I do not believe that smoking cigarettes leads to smoking other drugs. I occasionally smoke myself as well as some of my friends and none of us have ever had the urge to do other drugs. If anything, in my opinion, Marijuana would be the gateway drug that leads to other drugs.

  4. I agree with Ashley. Smoking is not a good thing and can harm ones health and the health of others around them, but if it was really prohibited, would one follow? There are other smoking drugs that are prohibited, but people still do it. Smoking shouldn't be prohibited in all areas as well. It's understandable when a place in the public prohibits smoking there, but it shouldn't be prohibited in all public areas.

  5. You have an interesting point of view.

However, I must disagree with your post. Our country is built on the freedom of the people, so what would be next? I can argue with you that drinking kills your liver and that if you get in a car after drinking, you can injure someone. Where do you draw the line?

To ban smoking everywhere is kind of ambitious. I am not a smoker nor will I ever smoke, I am an asthmatic, and that usually does not mix well. However, if I was a smoker, are you going to tell me I cannot smoke at my own residence? What about my business?

A little fact I think you would find interesting , on August 1st of last year, the Obama administration increased the taxes on cigarettes drastically. On the federal level, he raised the taxes from 39 cents to over a dollar. Maybe Obama has the same thought process as you, I do believe he just gave up smoking.

  6. Although smoking is extremely harmful to the human body, i think it would be nearly impossible to ban it in all public places. Some places have put this law into effect, and in some cases it has worked. However, if it was banned in all places, I think the amount of customers would decrease tremendously. Smoking is simply an addiction that many people cannot get rid of. I don't think the selling of cigarettes will ever stop because there is such a high demand for them.

  7. I agree smoking is bad for you, but I smoke still. I don't smoke more than a a few a day, but if smoking got banned from public places I wouldn't be that upset. But, banning smoking from all public places seems impossible to me. I think that would actually make things worse, even if it keeps people healthy. I think people would take action against banning smoking from all public places.

  8. Banning smoking would make things worse. Especially if they were to ban it in all public places. Some people are protective about their cigarettes. They know that if they stop smoking they could possible live longer and they don't. They know that they could be causing their own death. I don't think that most of these people would care if they made it a law. It would also be a hard law to enforce.
