Smoking in Public Places

Freedom is a right given to us that states that we are allowed to express our opinions and beliefs. We should also consider the others around us though and respect their thoughts and beliefs. Smoking in public places is a big problem these days but if there is no sign stopping the smokers then it is their choice to do it or not.

Non-smokers usually have there on section just like the smokers go outside to smoke. Smoking in public places is up to the owner of the place, or they give the smokers a certain distance to be away from the building. Smokers should have the choice to smoke wherever they want but respect the rights of the non-smokers. For example smokers should also realize that they couldn’t smoke in every public place because it is harmful to them and others, like smoking at a gas station or any place that will be affected by cigarettes.

Smoking is a choice, just like non-smokers have the right not to smoke. No one likes to be told what to do and no one should have to be told what to do. No matter if people fight for non-smoking in public places, there is enough second hand smoke to go around to harm the non-smokers in the same way. There should not be rules for smokers just like there are not rules for non-smokers. Even though there should be no rules, smokers should just respect the opinions of others and go outside and smoke or just stay in a distance.

  1. Smokers have the right to smoke where they want. I really don't want it to get to the point in which the government should tell people what people can and can not do. On the other hand my mom is a bad case of asthma. If she smells smoke she begins to choke up. So as much as I believe that people have the right to smoke where they want to I also believe that people should respect others so they are not put in a health situation. I like the ideas of smoking our non-smoking sections. This way smokers get to smoke and people like my mother can breath correctly.

  2. I agree with Theo; if you decide to smoke it is your choice and no one else. THe government shouldn't have the right to tell people that they can't smoke. People that smoke knows when it's the time to smoke or not, so they shouldn't have to be told repeatedly. For example, if a bar owner decides to allow smoking in the bar then the government doesn't have a say because it's not their bar, but the person that put their money into opening the bar.

  3. People should have the freedom to smoke but I believe that people should have the freedom to clean air, too. I think people should be able to smoke if they want to but only in designated areas to where non-smokers can avoid the harmful smoke if wanted. If people avoid these places it will reduce the amount of second hand smoke and make the air that they are around cleaner.

  4. I agree with Theo and Lexis; smokers should be able to smoke wherever they want. It's understandable if some places are off limits, such as middle and high school campuses. Smokers know that it's not healthy for them, but it's their choice to do it. Many people, that I know, do it to relieve stress.

  5. Me personally I can't stand the smell of smoke and I hate to be around it. But I'm not about to tell somebody to stop smoking because I'm standing near them. I do think smokers should be respectful of whose around them. Because I would tell them something if they're smoking near infants or elderly people.
