Whats the Big Deal?

What’s the big deal about drinking and driving? When someone is offered an alcoholic beverage, they shouldn’t have to think twice about it. People often think that drinking cures many things such as stress from school, relationships, or family problems. It is simply just an easy way for people to escape all of the problems they face in reality. Teenagers are usually peer pressured into drinking as young as the age of thirteen.

By drinking a few beers, the drivers vision and reaction time is barely impaired so chances of them getting caught is very slim. People think that they are invincible and that they’ll never get caught breaking the law. When getting into a vehicle where the driver is intoxicated, your life is in your own hands. Since the passenger decided to get into the car, it is not the driver’s responsibility for what happens.

Whether under the influence or not, driving is the quickest way to get home rather than walking. It is much cheaper than waiting for a cab every time or bothering friends for a ride. It’s also less commotion than having to find a ride to your car in the morning. Therefore, drinking and driving isn’t that big of a deal and the law shouldn’t be so strict.

  1. Drinking and driving isn't a smart idea, but sometimes it's convenient for the person doing it. Some people don't like depending on other people; therefore, some might not call a friend to come get them. They might've had a couple of drinks and said they were fine to get behind the wheel, maybe the were right or wrong, but the only thing that was probably going through their mind was just to get home, the fastest way.

  2. Drinking and driving are two words that sound terrible together in the same sentence. It might be a good idea at the time for the person and you might not get caught the first time but just imagine the damage that person could have caused. When you drink and drive you are not only putting yourself at risk but most important you are putting others at risk. It is a sticky situation to get yourself into, so everyone should just have a plan before they go out and drink.

  3. This is the worst advice I have read in a long time. Drinking and Driving can be deadly. It's worth a phone call for a cab.

  4. I could not stop laughing after I read this! I know that you have to argue "for" drinking and driving and I think you did a VERY good job defending your case! I'm sure you don't agree with it, but you made some good points in this. Did you know that being sleep deprived can place you at a greater risk while driving than having a few drinks?!? I don't agree with drinking and driving; however, almost everyone I know does it because calling a cab or phoning a friend can be a pain in the ass! I know it is far safer and smarter to take the higher road because in the end, the cost of a cab is A LOT cheaper than a DUI!

  5. Drinking and driving may not seem like a big deal at the time when you are drunk, but one night you may end up getting pulled over by a cop and issued a DUI or even dead. But i do agree with you when you say that when getting into a car with someone who is intoxicated is your choice. Even though calling a cab may cost more, or calling a friend to come get you may take more time but choosing these options could save your life.
